LionsXII defender, Safuwan Baharudin made history as he scored his third goal in many games before Khairul Amri made his fifth of the season giving the club a lead.
The LionsXII finally found a solution to their goal-scoring woes as Khairul Amri hit a strike and Safuwan Baharudin’s header gave them a 2-0 victory over Sime Darby FC at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday.
The reigning Malaysia Super League (MSL) champions gave a perfect reaction to coach Fandi Ahmad’s criticism of the team’s inefficiency in front of goal after a draw match against T-Team FC.
Safuwan led his team early in the second half as his header put the LionsXII ahead before Amri’s goal 10 minutes later. Amri’s goal put an end to the forward’s goal drought in their last four games.
It wasn’t that easy for the LionsXII to win the match as Sime Darby greatly challenged them. It was noted that Sime Darby had won three out of their last five home games. Mahmoud Amnah ignited the game as he bolted a through ball and exploded past Shakir Hamzah down the right only to shoot straight at Izwan Mahbud.
An action-packed game was witnessed by the thrilled spectators as both team showed great challenge to any player who had ball possession.
The LionsXII ended the game with a final 2-0 score that placed latched the team with a 3 wins over 4 games.
